GRADUATION!!

I graduated Salt Lake Community College on May 3, 2012 with my certificate in Cosmetology! Graduating from college is one of the best feelings in the world, to know all your hard work has paid off! I still have 2 more classes to take for my associates degree but all of the hard stuff is out of the way! I'm so happy to finally be out in the working field doing something I love, I can now look forward to going to work instead of dreading it! :) all my friends, family and my fiancé came to support me in my big day! Having them there was the best feeling! After the ceremony we went to dee's for dessert and open gifts! I got the greatest gifts and had the best time! I'm so ready to start this next chapter in my life!

Update!

TJay is working for his new job at S3 Entertianment here in Park City. He really enjoys it and he gets full benefits and a raise in 90 days which were excited about. He works part time and lids in the tanger outlet mall.. he's not so happy about working that job but it's only until I start working full time in the salon! I only have 3 weeks left of school! I finish with my license by May 1st and then I walk in graduation May 3rd. I'm not done with school yet but it feels so good to be done with the busiest part!! I can finally start working! From my recent posts you've all heard they plan on shutting the Barbering/Cosmetology program down at SLCC which has been upsetting to me considering I chose that school for a reason and to see all the wonderful Instrustors I was blessed to meet and learn from and the inspiring students to our doing something for themselves as well as their family its heart breaking to me. So we put together a rally in which only 7 students attented. upsetting but maybe they'll rethink when they are left not to finish.. ABC4 news and Fox 13 was there.. Im sorry I will be truthful.. both of them were extremely rude and got my name wrong when I spelled it for them. They didnt cover the facts we gave them and they barley informed the community like we asked. Funny how nice they look on tv to how rude they can be in person. We had the Board of Trustee's meeting. They are over the college. They had their mind made up before we even got the chance to speak.. we were timed and had 2 min to explain why SLCC has the best barbering/ cosmetology program [Ranked 3rd in the nation and 1st in the nation for skills USA] but they could careless what we had to say. Jesslie Anderson, President of the Board of Trustees, said "the decision was not "hasty." but accelerated by the need to find new space for the program. She said "the board needs to focus on programs that give graduates an opportunity to "go out into the workforce and gain meaningful employment!" Not only did this hurt all of our intrustors by seeing this it also was a jab to her very own hairdresser. We were told this career choice only paid 8.75 an hour. I don't know any hairdresser who makes 8.75 an hour. Do you?

This whole thing doesn't effect me in anyway but I was taught what is right and what is wrong and this is wrong.. I hope something can be done to save this program!!

Easter Weekend!!

Easter Weekend!!

Me and Teej got to spend easter weekend in Mesquite, Nevada with TJ's family. When I woke up for school friday morning there was a huge snow storm taking place and I wasn't quite sure if I was gonna make it to school. I was almost to the top of parley's summit when they told me they weren't gonna let me go over.. Bummer I was so close... so I headed home. I texted T [who was at work] to tell him I wasn't gonna make it to school, he told me to drive home safe. I got back home and T sent me a text saying to pack our stuff were going to Mesquite. T's family was leaving that friday for a 10 day trip in mesquite. I was so excited!! I love Mesquite. T's famliy goes twice a year and we had to give up last year because of my schooling.. I got all our stuffed packed and ready for when T got home from work.

T got home around 430 and while he cleaned out the truck I went to get my nails done when I was done it was to Mesquite we go. We drove a 5 1/2 hour drive to warm mesquite we arrived around 10 and then went to dinner at "The Fez" in the Casa Balanca hotel! Yum! Then to bed it was. Saturday we got up early and had breakfast with T's family at "The Fez" then we went back to the RV park. I met up with Tiffany [TJ's cousin's fiance] were we went to walmart to buy white nurse shoes so we could draw on them.. something I have always wanted to do :)

TJ turned 21 in november of 2011 and he hadn't had the chance to gamble yet.. so while I was coloring shoes with the rest of the fam he was gambling with his dad. He gambled a few times but was never a lucky winner.. bummer!! Tiffany whoever turned 21 this year and had her first time gambling. She bet 40 cents on a penny machine and walked away with a $569.00 win!! Teej was mad ha. But he will sure have his share of gambling when we take our trip to vegas this summer :)

After dinner we had easter egg dying with all the little ones.. tons of fun! TJ and I planned on leaving sunday morning so we got up early for breakfast and while T gambled again I went to the pool with tiffany to get our tan in. We didnt stay long cause tiffany is getting married soon and she didnt want tan lines :) but it was fun to catch up and have some good ol warm weather. Loved the warm weather comsidering we left a huge snow storm at home :) after all that we gathered around to make our every year t-shirts and do the easter egg hunt.. me and T together had $7 yay!! We had a great easter weekend :)

DATE NIGHT!

Teej ended up having to work his 2nd job last night so he didn't get off till little after 9. We had planned to go to Jupiter bowl in Park City to go bowling. We got there around 9:15 and  you need to be 21 before you could enter. Scratch the idea! So we decided on a movie, nope nothing plays after 9. Finally we decide on Maxwell's in New Park. Walking in the host asks for ID's..REALLY!! Luckily only one of us needed to be 21.. After experiencing a night where  you cant do anything after 9 in PC unless your 21 makes me being 20 feel so left out! I knew dating an older man wouldn't be easy but when he's 21 and your 20 you slowly find out just how much you guys cant do very much together.. we did end up having a yummy dinner and bought jack and jill from Wal-mart to watch at home..[Great Movie!!] wasn't the night we planned but I loved every min of it :)

I recently found out a few weeks ago that I'm GRADUATING cosmetology school early!! When I talked to our advisor Bonnie about graduating I wasn't graduating until June. I go to SLCC Taylorsville Redwood campus and they do two graduation walks, one in may and another towards the end of the year, even though I wouldn't be fully done with my hours until June I was still able to walk in the ceremony in May. I was STOKED! Marissa, Michelle [My girls from school :)] and I were planning on walking together!! We walked down to Bonnie's office to ask more on graduation and she pulls up my attendance and classes completed, then she looks up at me and tells me I'm gonna be graduating a lot sooner then I had planned.. try May 1st!!!! I was in shock.. that is exactly 24 days from today not including weekends. Um... Now I'm freaking out...in a good way :) not only am I nervous about being done with my certificate I'm more nervous about Exits and State boards!! I have my Exits on April 18th. Exits at SLCC are considered your pre-state board test, if you cant pass your exits you cant pass state boards but our instructors want us to use this time as practice to understand exactly how state boards are gonna be..  I love that about SLCC! After I take my exits I can sign up for my state boards and my written exam at anytime I feel ready to take the test!! Guess will see :)

Yesterday was the graduation fair!! That's the time you check to make sure your name going on the certificate and degree is correct, pick up cap, gown and tassel [ I bought my own tassel from jostens because the one they gave you was ugly :)] you decide on your announcements, head shot pictures in your cap and gown and then you get your honorary sash[that's what I'm calling it for now because I cant remember it's exact name] this is a blue sash that you wear during the ceremony and you write a message on it for somebody who has been your biggest support through out your college experience, I ended up getting two. One for my grandmother, she has been my biggest support if it wasn't for her stepping up to help me get enrolled at SLCC in the first place and making me stick to being committed I don't think I would be graduating as early as I am!! Thanks G-ma and one for my parents. They have helped so much on the financial side of my college considering I had no scholarships and was unaccepted for financial aid so they've paid my entire program from pocket and have been such good supporters throughout my college experience! I could never repay them :) and of course my fiance Teej he has helped so much from stepping up to help out with money to giving me foot massages for my sore feet after a long day at school. He has been the biggest supporter..from high school drill team to my full year of beauty school!! I love him so much for his patients I cant wait to give these to them graduation night!! :) It's going to be a great night filled with tons of laughs and memories to go around!! Starting back in summer I hope to return and get my Associates Degree!! I couldn't be happier!!
I also wanted to give you guys a little in-site on why I chose SLCC and what I plan on taking with me into my profession! When I first started looking into private schools I wasn't sure quite exactly what I was looking for. I knew I had always wanted to go to beauty school but never knew what it would be like to actually be in a beauty school. I looked into many schools. Paul Mitchell was a no. I have never liked paul mitchell products so why would I go to that school hating their product?? I then checked into Marinello in layton, close to home and I had heard great things from them so I made an appointment for me and my father to go down and take a tour of the school and get all the details, come to find out it was way out of our price range.. they were asking for 20 grand up front! Yeah no thanks. Marinello was out of the picture I looked around at some other schools and was having no luck in finding the perfect school for me. I called up my grandma to tell her I didn't think beauty school was gonna happen that year because I couldn't find a school in budget or that fit my taste. She of course did some researching herself and contacted me with SLCC's barbering/Cos program. I had no idea they even had a program for that at a community college. So I told her we could take a tour and see. So we did and when we took the tour they were in process of moving and remodeling the floors so I didn't like it at all. I couldn't picture myself standing there working like as if I was in a salon. But we finished the tour and we left on the car ride home my grandma was trying to convince me this was gonna be the best choice I could ever make by coming to this school.. in my head I'm thinking "ya right" but after long talks and lots of paper work she explained to me that I could finish a 2 year program in little over a year and get my associates degree as well. An associates degree.. I'd never thought of that. I was sold if I could get my certificate and my degree in little over a year for way less money then a private school.. why not? All the other private schools I looked into didn't offer that and were expensive.. no thanks!! I started my first day of cosmetology school on January 10, 2011. They start you out for one semester in orientation [which is nothing but bookwork and manikin work] before you ever reach the floor! I was upset at first! I don't wanna do manikin work all day.. can I just tell you how happy I am now to see why they do it that way!! Once reaching the floor your not nervous you've been taught for months everything you need to know.. don't get me wrong, ya your first client is always nerve racking but after that you become a pro! :) by summer semester I was full time on the floor and have been ever since. I was able to go to school full time and work my job and because I was able to work everything into a working schedule I'm now graduating early :) I've grown to learn so much from this program and my instructors will follow me for life.. I couldn't of asked for better instructors. SLCC is ranked #1 in the nation for skills USA which is taught by an incredible teacher Grace! She was also my orientation teacher!! She took a student to nationals last year in which she took first place!! We were so proud!! Grace has dedicated so much time to this school it wouldn't be the same without her! SLCC also has a senior theory which only focuses on state boards.. other schools don't get the time to learn the basics of the state boards when SLCC has a whole semester for it.. :) love it!! I've never had a bad time with any teacher and no conflicts with any students!! Im so happy with the choice I made in picking SLCC and I can now go into my profession with the confidence I need to be a great hairstylist!!!!!

Sorry for it being a book but for any of you interested in beauty school I defiantly recommend SLCC in a heart beat!! :) I'll leave you with some of my memories and work I've done for the past year :)

Sportsman's Expo.

We had to attend the sportsman's expo because it only comes once a year and if we didn't go it would be the end of the world. We had fun and will probably go next year as well :)
